There is a buzz in the air about connections.  Connecting with friends, family and co workers have a very important significance in our lives.  They are a part of our make up!  Relationships foster a healthy mind and heart.

We need human touch, conversation, engagement and relationships that have meaning.  We need to be outside to roam and explore.

I had a conversation last night with a dear friend of mine.  She and her husband became like family to me, (as all of mine are out East or on an Island :)  while I was living in their suite.

We were discussing how children need to build relationships with extended family, friends and neighbours.  She shared with me how when she was 12 years old, her friend and her would pack a lunch and take their bikes miles from home and spend the day at the beach and then daydream about how they would live in a mansion that they past on their journey home.

If we prepare our children for the future, we need to allow them the freedom to explore and be outside.  We need to teach them to trust themselves, and neighbours if they ever needed help!  By solving problems for them and by taking them to "sporting" events, we are restricting their competence and intuition.  I am not suggesting you just dump them somewhere, but you prepare them with the tools needed to be adventurous and safe!

How did you spend your time outside?

What are your fondest childhood memories?

Allow your children to get to know who is in their community.  Do you know your neighbours?

Let's create moments of connections with people we don't know.   Meet someone new, smile and say a friendly hello!

Give children the COURAGE they need for later on in life:

Allow yourselves and our children to embrace life fully and do things that are difficult and risky.

When you are tempted to give up, courage will guide you to the next step and allow us to face adversity with confidence.  Courage opens us to new possibilities and gives us the strength to sacrifice for what we love.

  • Our children need to know that they can face challenges
  • Be open to trying if fear gets in the way
  • Accept life's invitations

Have the courage to live and embrace life and those in it!
